The Jacksonville area market was historically serviced by two types of garage door companies; one concentrated on new
installations, the other on repairs to existing garage door systems. The market today is
characterized by the rapid expansion of the residential home building industry over the past fifteen years. This
explosion of new housing peaked in the summer of 2005.
The rapid expansion was followed by a slowdown in growth for a couple
of years and then a precipitous collapse in the summer of 2008. New residential home construction sunk to record lows.
The companies that concentrated on new construction have cut back to a much lesser number of employees who continue to install
new doors. They also began expanding into the garage door repair business in search of more work. The companies that concentrated
on repairing garage doors either downsized or went out of business. In either case the result is both types of garage door
companies are engaged in a fierce competition for the garage door repair business.
The Competition
As a result of the current business recession and fierce competition, consumers are vulnerable to a myriad of abuses that can
